How it all started....

The Beginning....

The Grant-Valkaria Community Association is a 501(c) 3 organization.  We are always looking for ideas to improve our beautiful town, so we decided to create a Memorial for Veterans.  In April 2024, The Veterans' Memorial Park at Grant-Valkaria came to life... a lot of ideas and a lot of research.

After much deliberation, The Veteran Committee agreed to build the Memorial in phases.  The Memorial Park will consist of:

  • A life-size bronze soldier statue
  • Two stacked brick monuments with four laser-engraved tablets
  • Six Service branch emblems displayed on a 4 ft stacked stone wall
  • Four vertical monuments displaying commemorative engraved bricks
  • Two (2) flag poles that will fly the USA flag, POW/MIA flag
  • Six Concrete Benches
  • Bronze battlefield cross
  • Bronze Military Dog
  • Bronze Bald Eagle statue
  • TBD bronze statue
  • Educational Area, ADA compliant, with educational placards and picnic tables

The 4,900-square-foot Memorial will be situated on the west side of Town Hall, facing the lakefront and fountain under a beautiful heritage oak tree named FREEDOM. The magnificent tree will provide shade and solace for family members and veterans as they remember their loved ones and brothers/sisters-in-arms and honor their memory.

                                                                           "That Tree"

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has existed for many years.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has weathered wind, rain, and unbearable weather conditions.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has survived countless days of heat and drought.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has survived Mother Nature's fury.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" understands that every branch of it's structure has meaning.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has taken the heat to give us shade.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" is majestic.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has stood the test of time.

Like our Veterans, "That Tree" has been with US (United States) and deserves our recognition for years to come.
